Onam Celebration: Connecting with the Culture

Onam Celebration: Connecting with the Culture

It is very important to connect with the culture. This is because a connection with the culture fosters deep values essential for a fulfilling life. IZee, one of the top BBA colleges in Bangalore, defines the holistic development of the students as one of its core objectives; values are an integral part. One of the ways of connecting with the culture is by celebrating festivals. Since IZee is the best MBA college in Bangalore, they decided to celebrate Onam on campus with total pomp & show.

The festival was celebrated in a totally traditional way. It began with colourfully dressed people with masks dancing to the drum beats and other music, with the decoration of folk art forms and floats. IZee was decorated with floral Rangolis, known as Onapookkalam, Athapookkalam, or just Pookkalam, a traditional decoration used during the Onam festival in southern areas. The celebration was full of dance and music. Students and faculty enjoyed dancing to the upbeat music. Some were also dressed as tigers and performed Pulikali, a popular tiger dance in the festival of Onam. Onam sadya (feast) was also organized to improve the taste of the celebration. Games like balancing lime on a spoon with the mouth, musical chairs, etc., were organized to increase the fun of the celebration exponentially. The experience was out of the world, and students enjoyed it.

Always being attached to academics isn’t something that we promote at IZee. It is important to have fun so your life does not become bland. And celebrating such festivals, as we discussed, comes with an extra benefit: connection with the culture and formation of defining values. IZee loved celebrating the festival. Maybe one of you reading might join the next year.
